FREEMAN’S have provided high class pharmaceutical services for communities in the south of Glasgow for more than 60 years. The family business in its present form was established by Steven Kayne in 1971 with a second pharmacy acquired shortly thereafter, and it was to here that the homeopathic dispensary was relocated in 1995. When neighbouring premises were acquired in May 2004, the unit was converted into a brand new homeopathic dispensary and consulting room suite.

In 1998, Lee Kayne returned to Glasgow after completing a postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard Medical School and took over the day to day administration of the pharmacy. The original premises were then sold, allowing Lee to concentrate on developing the scope of homeopathic services. Proprietor Steven ‘retired’ in 1999 to pursue his professional advisory and teaching duties but still maintains his contact with pharmacy clients by acting as consultant pharmacist. He has also authored and edited a number of professional textbooks covering aspects of both orthodox and complementary pharmacy practice. As well as holding a higher qualification as a pharmacist, Lee holds an MFHom(Pharm) and Fellowship from the Faculty of Homeopathy, is the former Faculty Pharmacy Dean and Pharmacy education co-ordinator for the European Committee for Homeopathy. He is committed to furthering professional development in homeopathy as well as the provision of high quality homeopathic specials to the professional community and the public.

The
FREEMAN’S dispensary is staffed by highly experienced, trained homeopathic dispensers who, together with their assistants, fulfil prescriptions and orders under the personal supervision of a pharmacist for healthcare professionals, homeopathic practitioners, pharmacies, other manufacturers, hospitals and the public. In addition to the UK and Ireland, human and veterinary remedies are supplied to clients in numerous countries, including the United States, Canada, Brazil, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. FREEMAN’S are proud to have supplied the Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital with their stock remedies for over 40 years.

All our remedies are prepared in strict accordance with the British and German Homeopathic Pharmacopoeias under Specials Manufacturing Licence from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (formerly the Medicines Control Agency) of the UK Government. We have held this licence since 1973 and are regularly inspected to ensure the highest standards of Good Manufacturing Practice and Quality Control are employed at all times. As part of our stringent internal quality control procedures, we use only similarly licensed raw material manufacturers. Remedies are hand-prepared individually for each order by experienced dispensers and may be ordered in a variety of dosage forms from our current list of almost 5000 remedies in over 10000 potencies. In 2007, we were the first company to produce a range of registered veterinary homeopathic remedies and in the same year Steven and Lee jointly founded Saltire Books Ltd, an independent publisher of complementary medicine texts.

The
FREEMAN’S website went live on January 1st 1996 – the first UK pharmacy to embrace this new technology. The site has proved to be extremely popular, among first time visitors and long-established clients alike, especially as a method of placing orders.
